Apple spokeswoman Michiko Matsumoto confirmed that an Apple iBook G4 caught fire in Japan causing the user minor burns. Japanese authorities have ordered Apple to investigate the trouble regarding Sony batteries and report back to them in a week.

Japanese authorities are also questioning other laptop makers besided Dell and Apple regarding the safety of their batteries.

Dell issued a recall for over 4.1 million laptop batteries after embarassing videos and photos showed a Dell laptop bursting into flames during a conference in Japan. Apple, who purchased the same type of batteries from Sony, the battery manufacturer, initiated a voluntary recall a week after the Dell recall. Apple recalled 1.8 million batteries. It is not know if batteries sold in Japan were covered in these numbers. Originally, 1.1 million batteries were recalled for the United States and 700,000 batteries were recalled abroad, but the other countries and their numbers were not specified.
