Rumors of Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 for 64 Bit OS’s Still a Rumor
For those of you looking for Nuance to offer a version of Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 that supports 64 Bit Operating Systems on either XP or Vista, I’m sad to report that you have to keep waiting.
I’ve seen a number of reports and rumors flitter through in Google alerts over the last few days that seem to incorrectly hint that Nuance now supports this capability. Unfortunately, these seem to be false and inaccurate.
Nuance has not released any press release or change in their support pages that would indicate that they have started supporting this growing segment of computers users, especially those people that have purchased a new laptop in the last few months.
I look forward to the day when they will support this, but unfortunately that day is not yet here.

Nuance has been selling Dragon 10 under false pretenses that it was suitable for all modern computers way past the time when I complained to them in writing that this product would not work with Vista 64bit.
This false advertising included not pointing out this serious limitation on their boxes and continuing to advertise similarly by mail and e-mail.
Since Nuance is not making refunds nor updating its product, nor advising responsibly and reliably when it will bring out its 64bit product, all of us who have been misled into thepurchasing useless software from that firm might well consider lodging complaints to the Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department, alleging false advertising, mail and wire fraud and whatever other valid legal theory might apply. It’s really unfortunate that a program update won’t run on the latest hardware. Nor is it an unreasonable assumption to believe it will.
Let’s just hope they get the 64-bit version out before their reputation sinks any farther.
Hi,
I think there was some confusion out there about the service pack that we just released about a month ago for version 10. The release that will support Vista 64 is called Version 10.1. We will start shipping Version 10.1 before the end of this month (March).
I have an updated blog article with some frequently asked questions that can be found here:

[...] Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 will receive a Vista 64 bit OS upgrade by the end of March 2009. This is the information that we found on the Nuance website after Peter Mahoney of Nuance left a comment here following one of our articles about 64 bit os rumors. [...]
Hi -
We just released the 10.1 release. Existing Dragon 10 customers can download the build and use their Dragon 10 serial numbers.
The build can be found here:

In fact the serial # of a previously purchased DNS legal version doesn’t get you anywhere.
Thanks for the update Peter. We will definitely post an update in the original article here as soon as the 10.1 update is available. There are definitely a lot of people very interested in this.
It is one thing to forget to mention that the software is incompatible with an operating system. It is another thing, entirely when you advertise that it is compatible when it clearly is not. On March 18, 2009, I received an email from nuance as follows:
NEW! Dragon now works with Windows Vista™ 64-Bit Systems!
I have a new laptop with Vista 64 bit, so I purchased it. I received DNS 10.0 which will NOT load on a Vista 64 bit system. When I spoke with customer service, they said that DNS 10.1 won’t be available for another 2 weeks from today! I love your products but you have created a ton of unnecessary ill will with your misrepresentations.
Personally, I have not yet seen any email or other advertisements from Nuance that indicates the software works with Windows Vista 64-Bit OS’s. It does run (running it now) on Windows Vista 32-Bit Os.
I wonder if someone in marketing jumped the gun on the email you received???
