The Virtual VIP Show – Now that's an Interesting Panel

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I came across this interesting video example of a virtual conference and meeting event, The Virtual VIP Show on blip.tv

Now, this event does take place in SecondLife, and while SecondLife does have huge potential to help people connect together more effectively and efficiently, it has had some issues in the past with people engaging in behavior that is not always conducive to a corporate setting.

That said the platform is still viable.  You wouldn’t write off doing business in a major city like San Francisco or Boston, or New York or London, just because the cities contain some seedier sides of town.  The same goes for SecondLife.  You have to know where to go, and how to get there.

If SecondLife Were Real

Monday, June 25th, 2007

I came across this video tonight depicting what life would belike if SecondLife (a virtual 3D alternate reality type of place) were real.

If you have ever visited SecondLife online, you’ll see the humor in this.  If you have not, I’d suggest reading SnowCrash by Neal Stephenson and then get a free SecondLife Account and try it out.  It may be 5 years away, but this is probably where the future of the internet will eventually be.

Video Driver Issues Delay MM7 Upgrade

Monday, June 18th, 2007

I was going to get to the mindmanager seven

installation this weekend, but I ran into some video card issues.  I was also experiencing a Microsoft Windows XP not Vista but the older version issue on my laptop when it comes to upgrades, I’ve got the automatic upgrade or update that is not upgrade, option turned on on my computer and it was supposed to automatically install the junk e-mail update for Outlook.

For whatever crazy Microsoft reason the automatic update just wouldn’t install, it kept trying and trying and trying but would not work.  Eventually I found an article online that described the problem that several of the people were having as well and I followed the advice got it to work.

Then I went into SecondLife as I hadn’t been to SecondLife awhile and I needed to check on the couple recent news articles that I’d come across, but every time I went into SecondLife my system would lock up and crash.  I thought maybe I had a video card driver problem, so I attempted to check for updates on my graphics card in put in an update and tried it again and it crashed again.  Well that turned into about a six-hour endeavor and I lost the time that I had set aside for installing mindmanager seven, so now a couple days behind my updated schedule to put in mindmanager seven, of course days Monday and I’ve got other obligations today so I’m hoping to get to this install later this evening.

My computer is Vista ready and I’m just about ready to give up on XP and jump on the bandwagon dealing with the problems with Vista, Guillen thing holding me back is QuickBooks.  I’ve got QuickBooks 2006 and I don’t feel like upgrading to 2007.  2006 is incompatible with Vista.  :(

Real Night Clubs go Virtual – Snow Crashing the Front Door

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

In a concept straight out of Neil Stephenson’s 1992 book “Snow Crash” real night clubs like the Pussycat Dolls Lounge are setting up virtual clubs on the net.

Visitors can set up an avatar of themselves and listen to the music sets playing, interact with other guests and even some of the celebrities that happen through.

Many other entertainment based clubs and areas are pushing virtual, interactive aspects into their line up. They might not make as much from watered down mixed drinks, but they don’t have to worry about the local fire marshall shutting down the place if it gets too crowded.

For those of you interested in the new trend, watch out for sword packing avatars dressed in black named Hiro Protagonist. :)
